So I attended the Honda Civic tour at the Klipsch venue last night. I was super excited to see Incubus and Linkin Park.
I had never seen Incubus before and so many of my friends who have seen them play a live show have told me that it was the best concert they had ever seen. "life changing!". Well, I don't know what happened, but it was not really that good. After a short opening act by Mutemath, Incubus went on second. It was still bright daylight. Usually the big acts don't start playing until the sun goes down. So I was pretty caught off guard when I heard them start to play while I was in line to enter the contest to win the awesome Honda Civic SI.
After Incubus was done, it took Linkin Park about 45 minutes to set up their set. They had a lot of pyrotechnics, and a projector show, and a pretty elaborate stage set up, so I can see why it took so long. The bad part was that they usually play music between sets, but instead of that, they just re-played a couple commercials about Linkin Park, and the Honda SI they were giving away. When they finally stopped all that and started playing music - The Beastie Boys - people actually cheered. It was kinda funny.
The Linkin Park set was pretty good. They played all the old music, and a lot of new music too. So even people like me, who stopped following them after Meteora, could have a good time. At one point during their second or third song, the loud speakers for the lawn section gave out, and they were out for a good minute, but when they came back up, they didn't seem to have any more problems for the rest of the night. The visuals for the show were pretty neat. I'm pretty sure Mike Shinoda had something to do with them because he's into that whole graffiti art thing.
Linkin Park was good, but the thing that really bothered me about the whole night was that nobody seemed all that enthusiastic about them at all. Usually you can take a look at the crowd on the lawn, and see some pits, or at the very least people jumping around. Strangely, it looked like nothing but a sea of zombies.
I didn't let that stop me and my friends from having a good time though! I just wish that one day, Linkin Park will play with Korn again.
